Memories of the old Southeast Texas Geocachers ForumSure did hate to see the old houstoncachers.org web site go, and now the old forum has been deleted as well. I have scraped together some old archived page scattered around my hard drive, and here are some links to some peices and parts of the old forum and a link to the front page of the old web page. So we can remember when.............. This isn't exactly how it looked, as the links to the graphics were on the web page, but I recreated the pics and background as best as I could remember them. Houstoncachers.org front pageTwo looks at the forum home page, and the favorite cache site topic. No messages to read, but a look at who was there and some of what was going on. Forum Home Page Oct. 29, 2004Forum Home Page June 21, 2005Favorite Cache Sites TopicCaptured some talk about the 2005 Texas Geocoin. Texas Gecoin TopicAnd I don't know what's up with this, it was named general index, but it wasn't in html. It was a text file, but still, it's a glimpse at what was going on at the time. General IndexI have a few other items I will post when I get them rounded up and uploaded.

I have the whole Houstoncachers.org site downloaded as it was before the domain went away. I would be more than happy to burn it to CD and hand deliver it to you. I'm off next week I and will be on your side of town. Maybe we can sit down face to face and talk in length about why the forums went away.

But dead is dead, and gone is gone, and I'll just remember what I can and let time sweeten the memories. I just wanted to post a few snippets of what I had so some of the earlier times, people and places of geocaching in this area wouldn't be forgotten.

This one came up from the very bottom of the pile! Anyone still out there who remembers the old Bravenet forum? This is just an index of the messages, but it has some tantalizing subject lines that we can only guess at what may have lain beneath! Of course, much conjecture is possible by seeing who posted it. The Old Bravenet forum--Feb. 2003 to April 2003

Turning the dials on the old time machine back to Feb. 24, 2003 Remembering Dan Miller's Geocaching Stats page. Not nearly as many caches in Houston back then as there are now, and not any easy pickings of 10 or 20 or more caches in a single park like you can find now. If you even tried for 10 finds in one day, you likely had to travel the whole of the city to accomplish it. And that's not even to mention how far the technology has come. It was rough in the "old days"!!! Click link to see a copy of the original page: Dan Miller's Stats Page (Houston area) 2-24-2003 It has more information than the list copied below, in which the cachers are ranked by their total number of finds and hides in the Houston area only, the linked page also lists their total finds, but is not ranked by total finds. Neo76, he nearly killed us with the cache “Aint No Way” but we managed to get the FTF. I hear that Neo76 got so many complaints on this cache that he moved it so it would be easier for the faint of heart. This was a thumbs up cache for me. Sure would like to see Neo76 put out some caches on the East Side of town.
