Personally, the gas prices are knocking the wind out of our sails. We start with a full tank, fill the tank when finished, count the number of finds and do the math. The cost per find is figured. It isnt very cheap. The heat and mosquitos dont help either along with that never ending list of stuff that needs to be done around the house. We are taking a small break till some of the things get better but are not holding out for the gas prices.

It would be cheaper for me to but that new Nikon and take up a new hobby.

I hear ya. We spent less to run 200 feet of 220v wiring underground with all materials than a good day of power caching. Having seen the poor business attitudes of GC.com lately, it doesnt make me want to get ready to renew our membership and send him money either.

I don't really feel that geocaching is in any great decline. Certainly all the recent squabbling and crap has turned me off of the GC.com forums, but I never spent much time on there anyway. Whatever Jeremy's feelings are on how the sport should be conducted, he should let a good PR person do his talking for him and try not to alienate a large portion of the caching community. That being said, I have no real problems with the rest of the GC website, as far as listing, finding and recording caches. I think they are constantly working to make improvements to the site. Right now, I've cut back on caching somewhat due to the heat and high gas prices both. And I work for an oil company! That and the fact that we've been having all new carpet, wood laminate, and ceramic tile laid in the house for the last week and a half. I haven't had ANY spare time!

We're in a similar situation as HC. The heat is keeping us inside much of the week. If we see something pop up nearby, we may take an evening run at it. Also, we are in the slowwwwww process of building a deck on our patio. This is probably going to take up the next few weekends.
What bothers me the most is that I have so many unfound caches in the Baytown/East Houston area, that it bugs me to no end. I have driven to Beaumont twice in the past month to visit Mom, and could only do 4 caches. The first time was after the big rain 2 weeks ago, and last weekend I had the kids, and we were on a tight schedule. Hopefully all the caches won't melt before I get there.

You should have Bosun over. Building decks is something he is good at. Of course he likes to build them over water and call them Platforms.

Cool. I forgot that Bosun was a deck builder. If he can only build them over water, then I'll have to install a pool, too. This might take a few more weeks. I'd better get a bigger shovel.
