I find the ammo box is good but will sometime be damp on the inside. My choice is the dollar store plastic container with the loose fitting top. The ones I’ve placed where the water did not rise have stayed dry for a couple of years now. The jar inside a jar is another good combo. What is your opinion on a good cache box?

Personally I lugged heavy ammo boxes in my back pack for years and WOW they got really heavy after a few miles. One day while I was caching in Canada almost every cache I found was in a water tight lock-n-lock. Every one was was dry no matter how long it had been out in the wild. Only problem the only place I could find them for sale was in Canada or on-line! I made several cacing trips to Canada just to pick up the lock-n-lock containers. Oh yeah I lived in WA at the time. Now they have finally hit main stream here in the states and you can find them for sale at WalMart! You can still get a better selection off the internet like round and square and rectangle in an assorted sizes. I love um!

I've seen a few of those lock-n-lock containers and wondered where the trend started--our neighbors to the north, aye? They are nice. Might have to make a run over to Wally Mart see if I can nab one or two.

I have to admit, the lock-n-locks seem to do the job, if they will hold up over time. The tupperware container lids seem to break down from UV rays after a year or two and crack. I think the LNL's will do better because the lid seems to be made of the same kind of plastic as the bottom -- sort of impervious to UV rays. If only the O-ring holds up.
The dryest cache I every found was WCB's Ghosts of Caches Past WP1. You just can't beat a bottle in a jar in a box in a container in a tin in a can! ;D

The Discovery Channel is on, right now, talking about using old ammo cans to ship radioactive materials, because they stand up so well. They do not send the really bad ones in ammo cans, just materials used as pharmaceuticals. The ones with a half life of 110 minutes.
